Tom Bowen was the 'original' therapist based in Geelong. His method was documented and taught not long after his passing. Different schools teach Bowen Therapy. I have trained with Bowtech New Zealand and have completed other training to complement Bowtech as research continues to develop and advance.
Time on the table is likely between 30 & 45 minutes; however, there is an intake form that I need to be completed to understand what you are aiming to achieve with the session. Best to allow 1 hour 15 minutes for the initial session. If you would like to complete the intake form at home and bring it with you, the time will be reduced. I can email you a form to complete.
Allow 3 sessions over 6 weeks to see how your body responds. After this, I encourage you to check in with how you are feeling while maintaining awareness of what is going on in your life.
Check-in/consult
A session would commence with a check-in/consult on how you are, and often a range of motion assessment, either standing or lying on the table. I encourage you to let me know of anything specific that is occurring for you currently. This may be physical pain, discomfort doing daily tasks, increased stress, or upcoming or recent surgery.
Therapy
The session commences with treatment on the lower back. I will use landmarks on your body to get the points where I can start the treatment. The treatment itself can be described as a rolling move over the muscle. It is gentle, but don't be discouraged by this. Tune into your body and feel, observe and relax to experience the full benefits of your time with me. The treatment is whole body and from the initial starting point on the lower back, depending on what is occurring for you, will determine where to go from here. What happens between 'moves' is that there is a rest period to allow your body to integrate what has just occurred.
Chronic problems may require more treatments. Send me an enquiry with the details, including how long you have suffered with this condition, what treatments you have tried and what, if anything, aggravates the condition or if it is constant.
You will be encouraged by your practitioner to keep moving (simply getting up from your chair once every 30 minutes or so is considered moving) & keep hydrated.
I operate out of two different premises in the city centre of Palmerston North. I will let you know where your session will be held.
